It’s been a while since I’ve added a new post but it’s not because I ran out of ideas. I have been working on a few things and between preparing post, taking care of my baby girl and working, things have just been crazy! Anyways, today I’m sharing my pear applesauce recipe.
I got this idea because my baby girl has been having a lot of issues with constipation. I give her a bunch of fruit and I was just looking for a way to mix it up for her and this pear applesauce was born. I actually really like it and I eat it as much as she does. This recipe is so easy and so tasty and requires such little ingredients; apples, pears and water.
I used fuji apples this time but I have also used honey crisp and it came out just as good. Feel free to use any apple you want or have on hand. You can also adjust the pear to apple ratio as you wish, this is just how I like doing it.
I peel the apples and pears because I found out that my daughter and husband are allergic to the apple skins. It’s so strange! Whether the apples are organic or not, washed with soap or vinegar, scrubbed down with a brush, it doesn’t matter. I don’t know why but they both get swollen lips just from the apple skins. But, if you have no problem with apple skins than you can keep the skins on if you want.
Chop the apple and pears into about 1″ pieces. Add about 2 table spoons of water to a pot and bring to a boil. Add the pears and apples, cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 20-25 minutes, periodically checking to make sure there is still water. Add more water if it gets dry. I accidentally used too much water here so my applesauce was a little bit on the watery side, but still really good.
Once finished cooking, pour everything in a blender and blend to desired consistency. I love the way it taste as is but you can add seasonings and sweeteners if you wish (i.e. cinnamon, honey, sugar). Have you tried any other applesauce combinations? Comment below what combinations you have tried or how you liked this one!
